EDUCATION

Idahoans deserve a better education system that values teachers, empowers parents, and that prepares our students to apply what they learn to lead a successful life in an ever increasingly competitive world.
As your representative, I promise to:
    • Work tirelessly to uphold the legislature’s constitutional duty to “maintain a general, uniform and thorough system of public, free common schools”, by fighting for adequate funding for our education system.
    • Reestablish the respect, value, and dignity for and of our teachers, by fighting to retain qualified educators by ensuring they are treated as professionals and paid a competitive wage. They became teachers for a reason, and have earned to be treated as the professionals they are. This would also include: ensuring active educators are included in state policy decision making.
    • Work together with teachers and parents to assess areas of improvement, and strengthen what works already in our education system.
    • Support local control and working together with local trustees and school district leadership to represent priorities important to our school districts.
    • Work together with parents and teachers to provide our students options for career-technical education (STEM) and college options, all critical to developing a well-rounded citizen.
    • Reducing state testing, while ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy skills are in place by the end of 3rd grade.
    • Work to reestablish strong bridges of trust and open communication between parents, teachers, and students, removing the toxic animosity and distrust that has increasingly plagued our education system across the state in recent decades.
